Dreamcatcher Project   May 01, 2011

On 10 May 2011, a ceremony marking the seventh and final year of the Membertou Dreamcatcher Project will take place in the atrium of the Membertou Trade and Convention Centre.  The Dreamcatcher is a gift from the children of Membertou Elementary School to the Community of Membertou First Nation.  Together, the seven years of this project symbolically represent Seven Generations and most importantly contain the dreams of the children of Membertou.  The idea behind the Dreamcatcher is to convey to young people the message that you can have a dream, you can be anything you want to be.  The Dreamcatcher project started in 2005 when the Canadian Aboriginal Science and Technology Society (CASTS) national meeting was held in Membertou, co-hosted by Cape Breton University (CBU) and the Unama'ki Institute of Natural Resources (UINR).  CBU's Canada Research Chair in Integrative Science Cheryl Bartlett provided several years of financial support for the Dreamcatcher project.
